With Time and Care

With Time and Care is a new body of small, hand-woven works that explore what it means to move deliberately through time, to slow down not out of limitation, but out of wisdom. Created during a period of caring for my mother as she lives with a slow-progressing illness, the project reflects on how love, patience, and attention can transform time into something lived deeply rather than measured.

In recent years, I have shifted from legal practice into a deeper focus on cultural responsibilities, many of which centre storytelling through weaving. Much of this practice happens alongside my Mum. We spend time together weaving, talking, and being, as hours pass us by. These shared acts remind me that care and creation are intertwined, and that time itself becomes precious through the intention we bring to it.

Through this process, I’ve been reflecting on the uncertainty of time; not only how much of it we have, but what the quality of that time will be. It’s something most of us move through life without needing to think about, until circumstances insist that we do. This work arises from that reckoning: from learning to meet time as it comes, to move with it gently, and to hold its passing with care. It also reflects on the importance of respecting time, your own and those you are in relationship with, by not wasting it, but honouring it through timely reciprocity, showing up with presence, following through on promise, and approaching time with attention, and care.

Each piece will be made entirely by hand, using natural fibres such as bush-dyed raffia and native grasses. The process values practice, patience, and repetition; qualities that mirror the quiet discipline of care. The residency offers space to listen, to work slowly, and to create from a place of steadiness and reflection.

With Time and Care considers how we might live and make in ways that honour the moment we are in, and how the smallest gestures can become vessels of wisdom, love, and evidence of time itself - reminders that time is both a gift and a responsibility, and that respect for it is one of the deepest forms of care.
