About
Elle and the R[evolution of Mike Ro Scopic
We’re excited to welcome Elle McKay as our upcoming Artist in Residence, participating in our Regional Artist Development (RAD) program for 2026.
A realist portrait painter, McKay’s practice is in careful observation and a deep interest in the psychological nuance of each subject. The work explores the subtle tension between outward appearance and inner experience, capturing moments that feel both intimate and quietly performative.
Alongside a studio-based painting practice, McKay performs through the drag alter ego Mike Ro Scopic; a vibrant extension of an ongoing exploration into transformation, identity, and self-construction. Together, these two strands create a compelling dialogue between realism and persona.
During the residency, new portrait works will be developed, investigating how identity can be both closely observed and consciously shaped, inviting audiences to reflect on the fluid space between authenticity and performance.
