Through the Eye: Regional Textile
Margaret Carnegie Gallery: 4 February - 28 March 2010
Through the Eye on display in the Margaret Carnegie Gallery, 2010
Through the Eye: Regional Textile provides a snapshot of one of the most diverse creative groups in the Riverina region, the artists who have turned their talents towards textile and fibre work. As a showcase of the incredible variety of processes and practices that these artists from all backgrounds are using, Through the Eye features practitioners at the height of their profession as well as those emerging into their careers.
Innovation and diversity are key themes in this exhibition, and many of the artists represented in Through the Eye have pushed the boundaries of textile and fibre practice well beyond traditional techniques with a range of other media, such as photography, sculpture and installation. The skills associated with textile and fibre work have been applied to the most unlikely materials - perspex, tree roots and even tea bags - without losing the fine grasp of technique that has always been associated with this medium.
Artists whose works are featured in Through the Eye include Marion Addinsall, Nicolette Benjamin Black, Judy Crain, Melanie Evans, Fay Grant, Wendy Harris, Patrice Kennedy, Marita Macklin, Julie Montgarrett, Beverly Moxon, Lauren Wilms, Sue Wood and Penny Wright. The exhibition has been curated by Linda Elliott, Curator of Education and Public Programs at Wagga Wagga Art Gallery.
