At first glance, lineal, straightforward and uniform,
Are these tree roots or tree limbs or simply just there?
Look, look into the fabric and the miniscule twists and turns,
Brown, but no, a palette of diverse colours,
Earth colours, swirling and eddying together.
Creation of the earth, history of time,
Our world’s development, destruction, reconstruction, emergence,
Portrayed by the scars, the concealed depths.
What sparkles precariously in the twists and turns?
Tiny shimmering drops, the elusive moisture
Crucial for existence, survival and to be, just there.

Stop; take time to rest in the dappled world of the forest,
Breathe in the dampness and smell of growth.
The tiny plants, unique in their design, bend and coil under your feet
Creating a soft moist carpet.
Tiny plants, hiding under feathery branches,
Protectors, hanging low and nurturing.
Sounds of the forest entrance,
Transporting you to rejoice this dappled world.
