About the event

Get ready for a night of 80s Aussie pub rock - paisley shirts, live bands and plenty of familiar songs.

We’re kicking off ROCKTOBER with a free screening of the 2026 documentary LIVE IT UP: The Mental As Anything Story, directed by Matthew Walker, along with a live set of classic 80s pub-rock tunes from local musician Dean Weston.

The film follows Mental As Anything from their early days playing inner-city Sydney pubs to becoming one of Australia’s best-loved bands. With their mix of clever pop songs, visual art and irreverent humour, they carved out a unique place in Australian music and their songs are still loved today.

Arrive from 5:30pm for a drink at the bar and live music from Dean Weston. The film starts at 6:30pm and finishes around 8:00pm.

DEAN WESTON is a rock and country music artist and seasoned live performer. Alongside recording and performing his own original music, Dean is well versed in the classic ’80s Australian pub-rock songs we all know and love, including favourites from Mental As Anything.
