The Regional Artist Development (RAD) Program is an annual initiative by Wagga Wagga Art Gallery, designed to support and mentor artists from the Riverina region.

The program offers a variety of opportunities for professional development, creative exploration, and community engagement, including residencies, exhibitions, and mentoring.

We offer three unique programs, each providing different opportunities for artists.

RAD Exhibition

The RAD ex program offers subsidised exhibition opportunities for local artists and curators at Wagga Wagga Art Gallery. This program provides professional development through mentoring from Gallery staff and the chance to engage with Gallery audiences.

What’s included:

  • Venue: The E3 Art Space, located within the Gallery complex on the scenic banks of Wollundry Lagoon.
  • Duration: 3-week exhibition period.
  • Public Programs: Successful applicants will deliver up to 2 public programs during their exhibition.
  • Commitment: Artists are expected to keep the gallery space open to the public 4 to 7 days per week, with a specific schedule to be coordinated with the management team.

This vibrant civic environment will offer inspiration, creative energy, and foster connections with fellow artists and the local community.

RAD x Earth Canvas Residency

In partnership with Earth Canvas, Wagga Wagga Art Gallery is thrilled to offer an artist residency focused on the intersection of environmental art and regenerative farming. This unique opportunity is designed for artists whose practice engages with themes of healthy landscapes, soil health, food production, and sustainability.

What’s included:

  • Residency Duration: 2 weeks at a regenerative farm  + 2 weeks at Wagga Wagga Art Gallery E3 Art Space.
  • Accommodation: Provided for the regenerative farm portion of the residency only.
  • Stipend: $3,000 total
  • Mentorship: The residency includes mentoring from a leading Australian landscape artist, providing valuable insights into working with nature to cultivate healthy ecosystems and produce sustainable food.

During the farm residency, artists will engage directly with the land, learning about regenerative practices in agriculture. The residency will be followed by a studio residency at Wagga Wagga Art Gallery, where artists will have the opportunity to reflect on and develop their work further.

This residency is ideal for artists with an environmental focus who are eager to expand their understanding of regenerative practices and create work that engages with themes of sustainability, food systems, and environmental health.
