Bailey Donovan - Dry Grass
Bailey Donovan, Dry Grass, 2019, blown glass, murrine
My work explores organic forms and patterns represented through traditional glass making techniques.
My vessels are inspired by the Venetian technique of murrine and the fluid nature of molten glass. Murrine is used to create thin lines of colour that dance around the vessel as if blown by the wind, giving the appearance of grass, or brushstrokes. This pattern is created by stretching, pulling, and cutting glass colour repetitively and melting into compositions.
This work serves as an exploration of traditional glass techniques through a contemporary lens.
