As Wagga Wagga grows and welcomes new communities, many artists have been drawn to examine how this multicultural growth affects us all as a city. Catherine Knox, a local artist, has been exploring the social diversity of Wagga Wagga and working with recent immigrant communities for many years, and the creative results of her labours feature in Yours Mine Ours.
Yours Mine Ours is an exhibition of large, bright and colourful paintings that respond to the experiences of young people, particularly from African backgrounds, as they develop relationships with the many communities of Wagga Wagga. Each painting tells a different story, and together these works present a new and exciting picture of life in Wagga Wagga, balancing the issues they raise with the simple experience of everyday life.
Catherine Knox says: 'Yours Mine Ours considers social relationships of community, belonging and integration. Yours Mine Ours explores pathways individuals and communities navigate in order to find a sense of place within a rural environment.'
