Arthur Wicks: Inside/Outside: Forward/Backwards on display in the Main Gallery, 2009-2010
An amazing array of helicopter, chariots and life-size puppets unveils the career of Arthur Wicks in Inside/Outside: Forward/Backwards. Over several decades, Arthur Wicks, Wagga Wagga's resident world-renowned artists extraordinaire, has explored the paradoxes of contemporary life. His prolific output has encompassed painting, printmaking, performance and sculpture - all of which are on display of this survey exhibition, which focuses on several of the key themes that have informed his practice.
Inside/Outside: Forward/Backwards features several of Arthur Wicks' renowned sculptural machines, with a range of vehicles including a helicopter, an armoured car, and a caged cyclist - hand-crafted mechanisms that each imprison a life-cast of the artist himself. A selection of prints and works on paper is also on display, drawn from several decades of the artist's work held in the collection of Wagga Wagga Art Gallery.
