National Art Glass Gallery: 11 June - 8 August 2010
Fortresses, walls and other defensive architecture on display in the National Art Glass Gallery, 2010
Judi Elliott, one of Australia's most acclaimed glass artists, works and exhibits art glass nationally and internationally. Her work is kiln-formed and sculptural and her inspiration is 'the house' and all things architectural. She depicts houses and large walls in glass, employing simplified geometric forms and bold primary colours combined with expressive textures.
Elliott's exhibition fortresses, walls and other defensive architecture is a stunning collection of vivid works. Elliott says 'each building or wall that one encounters in life is embedded with the lives of the people who inhabited them'.
Originally a ceramic artist and member of the Potters Society of Australia, Judi Elliott discovered glass and commenced her studies at the Glass Workshop at the Australian National University School of Art. After graduating with an Associate Diploma in Glass in 1985, she travelled to the United States to study at Pilchuck International Glass School near Seattle. Her work is represented in many public and private collections throughout Australia and internationally, including the National Art Glass Collection in Wagga Wagga, the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra, the Dusseldorf Kunstmuseum in Germany, and the Corning Glass Museum in New York.
