Marilyn Thompson: Conversations in a Wagga Space
E3 art space: 6 - 16 May 2010
Marilyn Thompson, Council Chambers Introspection, 2009, oil on canvas
Conversations in a Wagga Space, an exhibition of drawings, paintings and video work by local artist Marilyn Thompson in the E3 art space, provides a new perspective on some familiar Wagga Wagga scenes and personalities. A recent arrival to the city, Marilyn has brought a fresh and lively sensibility to the faces and places that surround us every day, and many visitors to this show will find that they too start to see Wagga in a new light.
Conversations in a Wagga Space also presents the history of Marilyn's own engagement with Wagga Wagga, where she moved in 2008 to graduate in fine arts at Charles Sturt University. Urban landmarks are reworked in oil and charcoal to evoke how the artist herself discovered the city, and the rural landscapes surrounding it. A series of drawings also captures the friendly faces of local residents, just as Marilyn herself has been welcomed into the community.
