The works in The Forgotten Botanist play with the idea of the early adventurous botanist and his or her accoutrements - the furniture and accessories of travelling in the early parts of the 20th century, the paraphernalia of collecting, writing, drawing and recording new and strange specimens, the taxonomy of discovery.

Ideas on suitable expedition equipment were at times extraordinary. Writing desks, dining tables, tea sets and even pianos were at different times considered essential, they took their culture with them.
