marramarra: make, do, create | HOME Program

Saturday 15 November to Sunday 20 February 2022 | E3 art space

Marramarra: make, do, create is viewable 24/7 through the windows of the E3 art space.

Marramarra: make, do, create is an exciting and innovative exhibition from students and teachers participating in the program of the same name. The Arts Unit, NSW Department of Education in partnership with the Art Gallery of NSW and Wagga Wagga Art Gallery, presents this seventh iteration of the program.

In what has been a difficult year for schools in the region, the program ran through three terms to utilise online learning platforms such as zoom meetings and live streams where face to face teaching was not possible, students learnt about Wiradjuri artists and their work and explored ideas of what Wiradjuri means to them through their own creative artmaking.  A selection of the work produced culminates in the marramarra exhibition.

This program brought together schools from across Wiradjuri Country to engage with the collections of The Art Gallery of New South Wales and Wagga Wagga Art Gallery and included opportunities for students and teachers to make connections with local Wiradjuri artists, artworks and language.

The reception and participation in the program have led to many wonderful outcomes for participants. The eight schools participating this year included Kapooka Public, Yanco Public, Uranquinty Public, Sturt Public, Lockhart Central, Lake Albert Public, Red Hill Public, and Tumut Public Schools with students at each school creating an incredible array of diverse artworks.

Wagga Wagga Art Gallery welcomes you all to this celebration of creativity, diversity and engagement of schools, galleries and communities. There is much to see, including prints, paintings and sculptural works. Come along and enjoy this exhibition as you discover the hidden stories, talents and visions of our region’s next generation of artists.
