About
Glass Chrysalis – Glass Art of Promise celebrates artform development and individual creativity, innovation, skill, and technique of ten of Australia’s premier early career glass artists. Co-curated by Wagga Wagga Art Gallery, Canberra Glassworks and Jam Factory Adelaide, Glass Chrysalis showcases developing trends in the contemporary studio art glass scene.
Glass Chrysalis will be an opportunity to examine developing trends in the contemporary studio art glass scene while allowing early career artists to gain exposure in a professional setting and to further develop and enrich their careers.
Glass Chrysalis will help to promote innovation and excellence in contemporary glass. It will feature 11 outstanding artists currently working in glass in Australia. These artists will be invited to exhibit 1-3 individual works. The exhibition will offer the artists the opportunity to present new works (produced within preceding two years – covering Covid period) that showcase experimentation and / or mastery of art glass making.
The artists represented in this exhibition will be selected having achieved a solid foundation following the study of Glass Art production within the walls of art training institutions and or having mentored and workshop experiences available nationally.
Their work will have successfully explored the diverse qualities of the material. Each work will be presented alongside an artist statement giving the viewer a unique opportunity to gain an insight into the inspiration behind these artworks and the experiences that inspire each artist.
Selected for exhibition in Glass Chrysalis – Glass Art of Promise, will provide both an opportunity and platform for promising young glass artists to gain/ increase recognition by peers and national profile.
Glass Chrysalis – Glass Art of Promise is co-curated by Wagga Wagga Art Gallery, Canberra Glassworks and Jam Factory Adelaide. Supported by Create NSW through NSW Government.
Glass Chrysalis replaces the National Emerging Art Glass Prize. It will be held on a triennial basis beginning in 2022 at the National Art Glass Gallery, Wagga Wagga.
