In the exhibition mayinyguwalgu ngunggirridyu three important Wiradjuri stories are told. Each story is a means to teach and sustain culture. Walan gugaa | strong goanna tells the story of how Wiradjuri people became a matriarchal society and the importance of having a strong identity. Pomingalarna and Gobbagumbalun is about the consequences of not listening to the advice of elders, whereupon a young couple turn into pair of frogs. Wirramari/big fish is the story of how the Marrambidya (Murrumbidgee River) was formed by the mighty Murray cod. Each of these stories has animations and sculptures, and in the case of Pomingalarna and Gobbagumbalun a story seat made in conjunction with Melbourne based furniture designer and maker, Vivienne Wong.

Through the creative talent and skills of First Nations members of Hands on Weavers, these stories are told. The Hands On Weavers Inc collective are active participants to the revival of traditional weaving practices. They also use objects and animation to share the many layers of their culture, language and heritage.
