Alice Tidd: Reflections

Tuesday 22 April – Monday 12 May 2025

Exhibition Shot 2

Local artist Alice Tidd unveils her exhibition, Reflections, a project that explores the connection between expressive art-making and personal experience. Drawing from her work as an art therapist and children's counsellor, Tidd uses her art as a visual diary capturing her own journey, the stories of those she works with, and the connections formed in the process.

Artist statement

This body of work explored the profound connection between art, communication and personal insights. As an art therapist and counsellor, my practice is deeply rooted in human connection and the stories we share in moments of vulnerability. Through this collection, I aim to capture the emotional exchanges that occur within the therapeutic process, offering a visual representation of what is often unspoken.

I am driven by the belief that art has the power to communicate the complex, layered experiences of being human. Each piece in Reflections uses strong line, organic shape and bold colour as an invitation to experience the challenges and growth that come with navigating difficult moments. Working with individuals, especially children, I am continually struck by how their emotions, struggles and triumphs can be expressed creatively, often revealing more than words can convey.

The pieces in this exhibition also document my own emotional journey as a therapist and reflect the shared moments that unfold within the therapy room. My own art-making process acts as a mirror to the therapeutic process, allowing for exploration of ideas and working through personal barriers.

Through this body of work, I invite you to reflect on your own emotional experiences, to find commonality in the vulnerability, and to witness the transformative power of expression. This exhibition is a celebration of connection, healing, and the beauty of art as a tool for personal and collective growth that has been accessible to us across time and culture. I hope that the pieces resonate with you, offering a space to reflect, connect, and embrace the shared human experience.
